Concern raised over moorings waiting list
St Sampson's Harbour
The waiting list for moorings on the island stands at 422 people
A local deputy is concerned that a waiting list for marina moorings in Guernsey could be inaccurate.

Deputy Janine Le Sauvage is calling for assurances that those on the waiting list do have boats.

There are 422 islanders listed in July 2000's Billet who want to take up a mooring, but Deputy Le Sauvage wants to know how many have now left the island.

It is the latest salvo in the debate over plans to create an extra 200 berthing spaces at St Sampson's Harbour.

Deputy Le Sauvage says the ease with which people can put their name on a waiting list is a worry.

'True reflection'

"I would like to ask the Board of Administration president Roger Berry whether he is 100% sure that all those people on the waiting list are ready, willing and able to take up a mooring if one is provided."

She said the list could include people who aspired to having a boat, but did not actually possess one.

"Is this list a true reflection of the number of people desperate to get a mooring, or is it a wish list?" she asked.

Deputy Le Sauvage said she would prefer the harbour was left undeveloped, as its beauty was a tourist attraction.
