Margaret Thatcher used a handbag to show her displeasure |
As a child, Max Cotton was asked to help his father - a local councillor - during the 1970 general election. He was bitten by the politics bug and 20 years later came to Westminster as a reporter and has been here, with one sojourn, ever since. Max says he prefers reporting on the activities of politicians because unlike other people in the news they rarely get hurt, most of their injuries are self inflicted and that any blood spilt is usually only tomato ketchup. Over the last two decades he has worked across the majority of the BBC's radio and TV networks and briefly ran the local radio station near his home in Somerset. His career highlight was being struck with a handbag, gently it has to be said, by Mrs Thatcher after he asked her what she considered a stupid question. When he is not reporting Max divides his time between looking out of the window and trying to avoid the demands of his numerous children.
