Hospital fire death patient named
A woman who was engulfed in flames when she apparently lit a cigarette in a hospital ward has been named.

Elizabeth Wilson died three days after the incident in the gynaecology unit of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Thirty other patients had to be led to safety following the fire which was extinguished by a doctor and a porter.

The 41-year-old lived in the Caravan Park behind the Trotting Mare Inn near Ellesmere. An inquest into her death has since been opened and adjourned.

West Mercia Police say they are investigating the incident which took place on 9 February.
