There was strong opposition to smoking in offices |
A survey in the East Midlands has found strong opposition to smoking in public places. The Big Smoke Debate survey found 81% of people in the region were bothered by cigarette smoke.
It also found 88% of the 24,145 respondents would support a ban on smoking in public places.
The survey's organisers will distribute the results to business and community leaders in the hope of influencing smoking policies.
In a similar survey in London, three-quarters of those taking part said they wanted more restrictions on public smoking.
The East Midlands survey was the first of its kind outside London.
