| Monday, 4 November, 2002, 22:42 GMT Tagged offender's 10m lotto win ![]() Michael Carroll's winning ticket was bought on a whim A 19-year-old young offender from Norfolk who says his court appearances are "countless" has won almost 10m on the lottery. Michael Carroll, from King's Lynn, was still wearing an electronic tag when he went to collect his winnings. On Saturday he was living off a jobseeker's allowance. Now he has a cheque for 9.736m and said he has no intention of ever working again. No angel He bought two lucky dip tickets on a whim - the first time he had ever played the lottery. When his winning numbers came up, he wanted them double-checked. "When my uncle and auntie come home they checked the numbers again for me," he said.
"I had to give the ticket to my uncle to finally confirm that I had won. "I have to say I was completely speechless and was so happy I couldn't help but cry." Now he plans to buy a house to share with his girlfriend Sandra Aikin, also 19, who is expecting their first child on Christmas Day. Spaghetti celebration The new young multi-millionaire admits that he is no angel. He is still under a tagging order for being drunk and disorderly and has served two months in a young offenders' institution for aggravated vehicle taking. But he says he is putting that behind him and insists the money will not be squandered on high living, luxury holidays or flashy cars. He was going home on Monday night to celebrate with spaghetti bolognese and a bottle of vodka. | See also: 16 Sep 02 | UK 21 Apr 02 | England 15 May 01 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
