Abigail Docherty talks to Jeremy Mortimer as part of Radio 4 Extra's 'BBC Radio Young Writers: 25 Years On' season. Abigail talks about writing her first radio play, 'Listen to my Inside Mind', which was commissioned when she was only 15, for Radio 4’s first ever ‘Young Playwrights' Festival’ in 1988.
She talks about how she played with internal and external monologue in that first script, something which she still does now as a writer.
She reveals how she developed her central character for 'Listen to My Inside Mind' and not knowing what the story was until she got to the end. She tells Jeremy what she loves most about writing and shares her top tips on writing for radio.
