Deadline: 5 pm on Monday 2nd March 2026

The text 'open call looking for comedy/sketch writers' on a colourful graphic background

Luke Pitman is a performer, clown and actor. They are seeking comedy writers to submit short original sketches for a filmed comedy project.

The aim of this project is to bring together distinct comedic voices and styles, and we actively encourage submissions from writers with varied approaches, from character-led and absurd, to sharp, surreal, physical, or quietly unhinged.

You will be collaborating with comedic actor Luke Pitman and their creative team. Luke is a physical performer and clown, and is keen to work with writers to create a series of bold, playful short comedy sketches.

The Project

  • A series of five short filmed comedy sketches
  • Sketches will be professionally produced and filmed with a cast of actors
  •  The finished films will be shared online and submitted to festivals

What they’re Looking For

  • Original comedy sketches
  • Approx. 2-5 minutes in length
  • Short-form, filmable ideas
  • (We as a creative team are open to surreal and absurdist worlds and characters, but please note they do not have a Hollywood budget)
  • A strong comic point of view
  • 1-5 characters in the scene per sketch
  • (One character will be played by Luke, please get in touch if you would like more information about his acting profile)

In addition to dialogue-led scripts, they also strongly value physical comedy, therefore they also welcome sketches that are non-verbal and focus on visual storytelling.

Writers at any stage of their career are welcome to apply. You don't need extensive experience, just strong comic instincts and ideas.

Collaboration & Process

This project is collaborative in nature. If selected, writers will be invited to discuss whether they would like to be involved in the filming process, including the option to be present on set, depending on interest and availability.

There is also potential for further collaboration beyond this project, should the process be mutually enjoyable and creatively aligned.

Fee & Rights

  • £200 fee per sketch used
  • Fee includes one round of feedback / revisions
  • Writers retain copyright
  • The producer will have the exclusive right to film, distribute, and promote the sketch as part of this project (including online and festival exhibition)
  • Any future commercial use will be subject to a separate agreement
  • Full credit will be given on all released material, and the writer may use the final project for their own use/ portfolio.

How to Apply

Please send the following:
