Meet the team at BBC Writers

The BBC Writers team is based at five locations across the UK in London, Salford, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast.

The BBC Writers Team

Alice Ramsey is the Salford-based Commissioning Executive in Drama working across both Drama Commissioning and the BBC Writers to identify and develop writing talent and supporting the development and production of the drama slate with a specific focus on the North of England. Prior to this, Alice was a Development Producer at BBC Writers in Salford managing our Scripted group, Writers' Access Group and Northern Voices. She joined BBC from BFI NETWORK in Summer 2019.

Audrey McFadden is the Assistant Producer in Glasgow coordinating events, opportunities, schemes, workshops and talent searches.

Cathy Quinn is the Development Coordinator in Belfast organising events, schemes, workshops and talent searches throughout Northern Ireland.

Celi Fowler is the Commissioning Executive in Wales. Celi works across both Drama Commissioning and BBC Writers, to find and nurture new writing talent and support the development and production of the Wales drama slate. Celi has spent over twenty years working in film and television, in both development and production, for companies including Number 9 Films, Wildgaze Films, the BBC, and most recently as a Development Executive at Ffilm Cymru Wales.

Elise Gallagher is the Development Coordinator for Wales where she collaborates on talent searches, opportunities, schemes, and events to support the search for emerging writing talent in Wales. Prior to joining BBC Writers she worked across BBC Audio Drama and BBC Audio’s CAM unit which involved producing talent development schemes and managing the BBC’s Contains Strong Language festival in partnership with City of Culture.

Emily Demol is the Development Coordinator based in Salford and works across both North-based and pan-UK development groups, events and projects. Emily also assists with BBC Writers’ digital platforms, designing and creating content for the website, blog and social media. Before joining the team, Emily worked in BBC Radio Production for Factual programming and Radio Drama.

Esther Jackson-Burton is the Salford-based Development Producer working across the North and Midlands Voices programme and the Writers' Access Group. Esther has spent most of her career in scripted Children's drama with experience across development, in production and most recently on the scripted commissioning team in BBC Children's.

Heather Larmour is the Commissioning Executive in Northern Ireland. She worked in BBC Northern Ireland’s Drama department as a Radio Drama Producer for a number of years before moving to work in TV at Kudos where she was a Development Executive and mostly recently a Script Editor across several of the company’s productions.

Jess Loveland is Head of New Writing based in Salford and working across BBC Writers and Drama Commissioning. Jess oversees all new writing talent development initiatives and works closely with the team to ensure we create a vibrant and inspiring home for new writers across the UK. Jess joined from the BFI where she was Head of BFI NETWORK, the organisation’s UK-wide programme of talent development support for early career writers, directors and producers.

Monica O'Connor is the BBC Writers Production Manager providing finance and business support for BBC Writers across the whole UK.

Patrick Clarke is the Development Coordinator based in Salford. Patrick works across the London Voices Scheme and the Writers Access Group. Patrick joined BBC Writers from the Children's and Education Digital Team where he was a Social Media Exec.

Philip Mattison is the Digital Content & Communications Manager with responsibility for the website, blog, social media, annual report, press releases, branding and other communications relating to BBC Writers' work across the UK. He works to represent, promote and develop the work and resources of BBC Writers in digital spaces, including new forms of storytelling. He also oversees the support and development of the E-submissions system.

Simon Nelson is Development Executive in London. Simon looks after writer development and talent searches, development schemes, partnerships and production projects. He heads up the pan-UK Indie Pilot Programme and Southwest & Southeast Voices, as well as liaising between BBC Writers and Drama Commissioning.

Stephanie Fyfe is our Commissioning Executive in Scotland, working across both Drama Commissioning and BBC Writers to source, champion and develop new writing talent and to support the development and production of the Scottish drama slate. Prior to this, as a development executive and script editor, she has worked with a range of writing talent across multiple genres and formats.

Usman Mullan (currently on attachment to BBC Childrens) is the Salford-based Development Producer. He looks after writer development across TV, Radio and digital platforms, producing schemes, opportunities and events for writers across the the North of England and beyond. Usman has produced writer development programmes such as Northern Voices. Usman has a background in TV production and digital storytelling. 

Zahra Al-Sultani is the Development Producer in London working on Scripted, London Voices and other development schemes.

Alongside us is a team of freelance professional script readers who work on the script calls, talent searches and competitions.
