| Talvin Singh
Born in London and international by nature, he has studied classical Indian music with Gurudev, Acharya Pandit Laxman Singh since the age if 15. In 1990 he conceived the Tablatronic, an instument which "sings" the language of Indian drumming but has multiple processing possibilities. His groundbreaking 1998 debut release OK won Talvin the much celebrated Mercury Music Prize in 1999. Talvin is a representative of the Punjab Style of tabla playing which has a strong connection to Sufism. His collaborations include a vast range of artists from Madonna, Jay Z and Blondie through to The Master Musicians of Jajouka and the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Singh's collaborations with Indian classical musicians include Ustad Sultan Khan, Rakesh Churasia, Ustad Imrat Khan and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
