Editor's Choice - Much ado about Vaclav's wife
Havel with his wife.
Vaclav Havel with wife Dagmar.
The play "Redevelopment" was written 20 years ago by Vaclav Havel.

It was one of his last plays until now his writing career was interrupted when he was elected President of the Czech Republic.

Theatre audiences have waited a long time for his new drama, and now it looks as if they may have to wait a little bit longer.

The new play, "Leaving", is currently without a venue, after Havel refused to allow Prague's National Theatre to stage it because it refused to allow his wife, actress Dagmar Havlova, to play the lead role.

Europe Today spoke to the director of the national theatre, Ondrey Cerny, who explained their position;

Jitka Sloupova is Vaclav Havel's agent. Europe Today spoke to her and asked her why it was so important to the former president that his wife play the role?

First broadcast 30th August.
