Czech resistance

Michaela Plikova lives in Prague and was born in 1989, just before the end of the communist era.

She now works in the prestigious Archa theatre, which her father bought, redesigned and then ran.

At the time, theatre and music represented real dissent and resistance to the communist regime. Many of the performances were illegal.

Michaela reports on the long lasting cultural and social importance of her father’s theatre.

This report from Michaela is part of a series of eight cross-generational perspectives on 1989 from Czechoslovakia, Germany, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Romania Tajikistan and Cuba.
