The Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has been chosen to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
It will be the first South American city to stage the event.
Rio beat the Spanish capital Madrid in a final round of voting by the International Olympic Committee, meeting in Copenhagen.
The bookmakers' favourite, the city of Chicago, for which President Barack Obama and his wife had made an emotional bid, was eliminated in the first round.
Before the decision was made, the World Today asked ordinary citizens in each of the bidding cities to put their case.
