Musical polymath Rufus Wainwright returns with a new album - All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu.
The album is his first release since the death of his mother, folk singer Kate McGarrigle.
On it he leaves behind the lush orchestration he is known for, in favour of a pared down sound consisting predominantly of piano and voice.
He told Harriett how the album had helped him express his grief and revealed the identity of the eponymous Lulu.
He also played live in the studio. Here he is performing Sonnet 20 from the new album.
And here is 'Martha', inspired by his sister and fellow singer Martha Wainwright.
