Friday 6th July Thomas Ayeni in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, comments on the kidnapping of a young girl in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta region. The abduction of a three year old child did not surprise me. The people who started these kidnapping tactics in the name of fighting for the people of the Niger-Delta should be ashamed of themselves. These militants owe it to the good people of this area to rid themselves of such criminal elements. Thomas calls for people in the region to come together to end such violent action. Good people of Niger Delta - I urge you all to rise up and match your words with action. We should not allow these criminals to sabotage the efforts of our region's heroes - Isaac Boro, Ken Saro-Wiwa and other gallant sons of the Delta! Thursday 5th July The 9th African Union meeting in Accra has ended but it's left Abdulai Jabbie from Freetown, Sierra Leone completely disappointed This latest AU meeting was a sham! Most of our African leaders have divided minds over the issue of African Unity. What is their problem? These leaders are not ready to give up their sovereignities so that the whole continent can share the huge human and natural resources we possess. I have a plan instead. It's called the "A.B.C." Plan: A. One African Government first B. One African Army second. And then C. One African Economy third. With these 3 strategies put in place, we Africans could share our political ideas, ensure our security and also share a mass of resources. Wednesday 4th July Thomas Ayeni from Nigeria celebrates the release of our colleague Alan Johnston, who was abducted in Gaza almost four months ago. I was so happy to hear the good news about Allan's freedom. I did not have the time to sign the online petition but Allan you were always in my prayers. Your plight has given face to many people who have been taken hostage. We are all looking forward to hearing that familiar voice again! |
