India rising
Map of Indian marking reporters' destinations
Rachael and Umaru will have Indian stories from an African perspective
BBC African service journalists, Ugandan Rachael Akidi and Sierra Leonean Umaru Fofana are visiting India for their first time to report for the India Rising season.

India is one of the most populous countries in the world with a thriving economy and a middle class purported to number around 300 million. But what is behind these impressive statistics?

Rachael and Umaru are visiting Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai to tell the stories behind the statistics from an African perspective.

The links and parallels between Africa and India have been nurtured for thousands of years by the Indian ocean winds that have carried people, cultures and goods between the two great land masses.

Through African eyes

Has India's growth spurt attracted admiring African glances from across the way?

Are there areas of the Indian economic model that Africa can reversion for her own use?

We'll be getting right under the skin of India, her economy, society, religions, health system, culture and entertainment and considering how things compare to their African equivalents.

Enjoy listening.
