Friday 25th August

Raymond Amaglo in Accra, Ghana is not happy with Africa's elders.

I believe, in no uncertain terms, that the older generation in Africa has failed the youth of today!

This generation - for example, those in Ghana who enjoyed free education up to university level - only used the knowledge they acquired to amass wealth for themselves.

They never planned for future society and as a consequence, many youths today are taking to vices such as prostitution, robbery and narcotics peddling in order to survive.

I hope the current Kuffuor government in Ghana and other African leaders soon realise that the future of Africa is in its youth.

Thursday 24th August

Daniel Juol Nhomngek, a Sudanese student in Kampala, Uganda raises the weighty subject of war.

I feel depressed when I hear of all these useless and endless wars taking place in Africa.

I have sleepless nights, worrying about how we are going to achieve permanent peace and stability.

Look at what is happening in Congo, Uganda, Senegal, Ethiopia, Somalia, Chad, Burundi, Rwanda, Nigeria, and worst of all, my country, Sudan.

Why has Africa become a sanctuary for civil and secessionist wars?

Let the African Union prepare a big war to eliminate all these small wars. In so doing, I am sure Africa will see an era of long-lasting peace.

Wednesday 23rd August

Momoh Magona-Kallon in Edmonton, Canada has words to say about absconding athletes.

I am totally against the Sierra Leonean athletes who went to Australia to represent their country at the Commonwealth Games in March, and then absconded.

I am equally against the Australian authorities for granting these athletes visas to stay, because this will only encourage more athletes to do the same thing in the future.

However, I am even more angry with the Sierra Leonean authorities who are the very cause of all this.

They have created miserable living conditions for people and because of this, most Sierra Leoneans are desperate and take any opportunity they have to leave the country.

Tuesday 22nd August

Mahamoud Yahya in Saudi Arabia thinks that the newly appointed Somali cabinet, made up of 31 members, is too large.

Yesterday's announced new cabinet is too big and quite unnecessary for a war-torn, penniless country like Somalia.

The irrationality of appointing so many cabinet members is due to the fact that the number of clans to be given ministerial positions has to be determined first, and is not what the country actually needs.

Isn't it a joke to talk about a minister for tourism in a country like Somalia, still undergoing a never-ending civil war?

Who in his right mind would go to such a miserable place to spend a peaceful and relaxing holiday or summer vacation? I'm a Somali national and I wouldn't visit our capital, Mogadishu even if you offered me a million dollars!

Monday 21st August

Kwaku Antwi-Boasiako in Accra, Ghana is sceptical that Zimbabwe's new currency - introduced by the government in the face of rampant inflation, now running at about a-thousand per cent - won't change a thing.

Please tell President Robert Mugabe that introducing new currency notes to fix inflation pressures is like wearing a band-aid on one's stomach to heal a runny tummy.

Instead, he should change his destructive politics and economic policies to revive the productive sectors of the economy, to ensure the availability of goods and services for both domestic use and export.

There can be no quick fixes to the current downward spiral of the Zimbabwean economy.
