Peter Day visits Central Europe looking at working life in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.
He assesses how well prepared the countries and their businesses are for joining the 370 million people already contained within the European Union.
Peter Day presents a series of three programmes.
Programme 1: Czech Republic Peter Day talks to a panel of Czech businessmen about the changes they’ve seen since Communism crumbled and why it matters that the nation should be part of Europe once again.
High levels of foreign investment and a marked change in business culture point to a country ready for Europe.
Programme 2: Hungary Peter Day talks to a panel of distinguished experts at the Budapest Stock Exchange.
His guests include the Chairman of the Stock Exchange, a prominent Trade Unionist, Hungary’s leading internet content provider and one of the country’s top wine exporters.
Programme 3: Poland A country of 40 million where economic growth is tiny, unemployment is about 18% and with agriculture at it’s heart.
And with such a huge reliance on the farming sector any changes in Poland brought about by the planned European expansion will have big knock on implications for agricultural support policy in Europe as a whole.
