Buchi Emecheta continues to live in the UK and to earn a living from her writing as well as giving talks, readings and lectures about being a black woman writer.

Her latest work, The New Tribe, was published by Heinemann in Autumn 2000. The New Tribe tells the story of Chester's long search for his true identity, and the challenges he faces as a black child in a white family.
