United Nations

Wednesday: The United Nations Security Council will be discussing co-operation between itself and the African Union - but Zimbabwe threatens to overshadow the meeting. The UK, as well as the US and France has said that it wants the issue of the postponed election results and the ensuing conditions in the country to be discussed - but not everyone agrees. The High Court rejected the opposition Movement for Democratic Change petition trying to compel the country's electoral body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ZEC, to release the results of the presidential election held last month. The party's Secretary for Information and Publicity, Nelson Chamisa gave Uduak Amimo his reaction to the ruling. (14/04/08)

Zimbabwe's High Court is due to rule on whether the electoral commission should release results from the presidential poll immediately.

Regional silence

President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa has continued to call for patience in awaiting the outcome of the polls. He and other leaders in the SADC (Southern Africa Development Community) region have been criticised for failing to put more pressure on President Mugabe to release the results.

Run-off

A run-off for the presidency between the President Mugabe and the leader of the opposition MDC, Morgan Tsvangirai now seems likely.
