Experts from the Pension Service and the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust have teamed up with Wiltshire County Council to provide information surgeries through its mobile library network. | | Post Offices - traditional sources of information. |
They are running information sessions on pensions and energy efficiency at mobile library stops in the Warminster area during May and June. The experiment will be rolled out to other mobile library routes if it proves popular with people. Community librarian Richard Violet told BBC Wiltshire: "The Pension Service has been represented by its local pension advisor who has been offering advice on all types of benefits, while the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust's energy efficiency co-ordinator will be telling people how they can save on their energy costs. "We hope through this initiative, people in isolated rural communities will be offered the same type of information facilities as those living in neighbouring towns. "If this trial proves to be a success, further visits will be arranged and other organisations have already expressed an interest. | | Advice can be hard to come-by if you live away from the main centres of population. |
"The county council's network of mobile libraries could provide the ideal method for organisations such as these to offer people help and advice in the countryside as well as providing a valuable extension of our library and information service to rural communities." The initiative is part of the county council's commitment to provide an efficient and comprehensive library service for everyone in Wiltshire. The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust will call at East Knoyle, Sedghill, Semley, Donhead St.Mary and St Andrew, Ludwell, Charlton and Tollard Royal, on June 29, and Monkton Deverill, Maiden Bradley, Zeals, Kilmington and Hindon on June 30. The times of the surgeries will be the mobile library's normal visiting times. The Pension Service called at a number of village communities in May. |
