The library uses the computerised book issue system, the same system currently used in all other Swindon libraries, which means that anyone with existing library membership can use the mobile service without the need register separately. Library users have access to all Swindon libraries' stock via the computerised catalogue and the request service and books not in stock can be obtained for a request fee of 75p. All videos and DVDs can be requested free of charge. The new service offers a large range of adult and children's books, and up to 16 books may be borrowed at one time. The mobile library has six stopping places in and around Chiseldon, which were chosen after talking to local residents and groups. The mobile library, which is fully accessible for people with disabilities, visits Chiseldon every Monday and Thursday and operates to the following timetable: Butts Rd 1300 - 1320 School 1330-1520 Car park opposite Elm tree 1530 - 1630 Ridgeway View 1640-1655 Home Close 1705 - 1725 Patriots Arms 1800 - 1900 Anyone wanting to join the library service should bring one form of identification, showing your current address to the library. The service replaces the existing library in Chiseldon, which closed for the final time on Thursday 1st April 2004. For further information, contact West Swindon Library on Tel 01793 465555. |
