BBC Timeline Wiltshire Event

You're invited, on 21st June, to the Science Museum Wroughton to celebrate BBC Timeline Wiltshire.

NMSI Wroughton (formerly Science Museum Wroughton) is opening up two of its seven vast aircraft hangers for an exclusive BBC Radio Swindon and BBC Radio Wiltshire evening event.

As the storage facility for the London Science Museum, NMSI Wroughton is an Aladdin's Cave stuffed to the rafters with the collection's largest and heaviest objects.

Over 18,000 objects are in storage including space rockets, fire engines, bicycles, scientific equipment and aircraft.

And on the 21st June, 2006, there'll be a rare chance to see some of these oversized technological wonders when the enormous doors roll back on Hangars D4 and D3 for the BBC Timeline Wiltshire Event.

Kicking off at 6.30 pm the event is free and open to everyone, rounding off a day of Wiltshire History told on the longest day - the Summer Solstice.

In the cavernous hangars you'll not only be able to get up close and personal to the famous Lockheed Constellation Airliner (yes an airliner) but the Edsel Motor Car, Saunders-Roe's Nautical-1 Hovercraft, The Mantis One-Man Submersible, A DeHavilland Comet Airliner and a Polaris Nuclear Missile (which we're reliably informed is disarmed!)

But don't worry if you don't know your DeHavilland from your one-man - there'll be an expert on hand to guide you through the museum's vast eclectic collection.

Plus, deep breath, you'll also be able to listen to a series of talks from expert guest speakers, meet members of local and family history societies, watch re-enactors, chat with archaeologists and question tutors from history courses from across Wiltshire.

Or, if that all sounds too hectic, you can always immerse yourself in the museum's exhibitions!

The BBC Timeline Wiltshire event kicks off at 6.30pm and runs through to 10.00pm with BBC Radio Swindon and BBC Radio Wiltshire broadcasting live from the event from 7.00 pm onwards.
