UNDER 12’LEAGUE CUP

After last weeks Postponement due to heavy rain and a rearranged kick-off time
to allow for players to attend Remembrance parades, it was a cold November
wind, blowing across the fields of St Laurence School, that carried the shrill
whistle signalling the beginnings of a well matched, exciting, but hard game of
football.

Westbury started well, attacking from the kick-off, but Bradford, managing to
quash the rush of their opposition, opened the box from which a fast and
furious game emerged, with both teams showing great potential.

Play continued from end to end, with the defence of each team managing to keep
the ball in the field of play. At least, that was, until Westbury's Thomas
Martin managed to claw his way across to goal from the left corner of the pitch
and slip the leather past the keeper into the far right side of the net.

Then it seemed as though Bradford had underestimated their opposition, when
minutes later he did it again, from exactly the same spot giving Westbury a
well earned lead. From this point the play changed gear and Westbury took
control of the field with an array of passing moves, but could not get the ball
past the very capable Bradford goal keeper.

The second half seemed to show a different side emerge from the Bradford
touchline, as their renewed passion kept the game open with some great
attacking play. Keeping the Westbury defence on their toes and working hard,
their amazing persistence finally made it through, with a great run giving the
Home side a spot on the score sheet.

Now with the play getting harder as the time ticked by, and with just one goal
in it, Westbury were the ones who sealed the fate of the game, when Ashley
Bodman, the man of the match, managed to contact the ball against the inside of
the net.
Bradford then worked their hardest to try and get themselves back into the game
but the sound of the whistle ended their hopes and Westbury were victorious

Trowbridge Town Wasps started this cup game full of running and opened the scoring after five minutes with midfielder John Carroll scoring with a twenty yard free kick before a second from Aaron Patrick with a calm finish after some excellent work from livewire Corey Smitherman who also provided the third for Alex de Silva to convert. A fourth was added by Kieran Mccaldon in his first match back after five months out with a broken ankle before Castle Combe got one back with a good breakaway. Trowbridge rounded of the first half with Alex de Silva grabbing his second from an excellent through ball from John Carroll.
The second half saw the Wasps extend their lead further against a game Castle Combe team with Alex de Silva completing his hat-trick followed by an excellent finish from Conor Stevens, and an equally impressive strike from Adam Hughes. Trowbridge completed the scoring by converting two penalties in quick succession the first from Mike Reynolds and second from Joshua Moss. Final score 10-1 to the Wasps.
