UNDER 9’S LEAGUE CUP Trowbridge Town Youth ‘A’ eventually ran out comfortable winners against a well organised and determined Bromham side who, despite the score line of 12-0, kept going until the end. Trowbridge pressed from the start but where kept at bay by some excellent goalkeeping by the Bromham keeper, in fact Bromham were unlucky not to take an early lead when they broke quickly from a corner and were denied a goal-scoring opportunity by a last ditch tackle which resulted in a corner. From that point on it was Trowbridge who took control of the game scoring five goals by half time. The Trowbridge goal scorers where Thomas Green (3), Conner McKay (3), Matthew Morris (3) and one each for Liam Naylor, George Lawford and Bradley Neate. Trowbridge Wanderers ‘A’ deserved their victory over a lacklustre Trowbridge Town Youth ‘C’ side who struggled to match Wanderers throughout the game for effort and commitment. The tie between home side Melksham Town Youth Robins and Melksham Park ‘A’ produced an exciting local derby cup match that lived up to expectations. From the kick off both teams attempted to play an attacking passing game. The Park’s goalkeeper was forced to handle outside his area to thwart one Robins attack and from the resulting free kick the Robins struck the cross bar so hard the goal was almost uprooted. It was Park though that took the lead, punishing the Robins for a lack of concentration and scoring from a clever lofted shot that deceived the keeper. Good keeping from both sides prevented a flood of goals. However, there was little the Robins keeper could do about the second. The goal came from a tame shot that should have been dealt with easily but a defensive mix up saw a hasty clearance ricochet off another Robins and Park player before finding it’s way to the back of the net. The Robins response was superb, eventually pulling a goal back with Sam Rose sending a thunderous drive from the edge of the area into the back of the net.
