Mushrooms & Fungi

The common puffball or devil's snuff-box is a moderate-sized puffball mushroom covered in short spiny bumps or 'jewels'. Image by Gale. When mature they become brown and a hole in the top opens to release spores in a burst when the body is compressed by raindrops, a touch, falling nuts, etc.
A selection of weird and wonderful mushrooms and fungi taken in Wales during autumn by members of our Flickr group. Never eat any mushrooms you are unsure about identifying. If in any doubt, photograph it and leave well alone.
