Freur

Last updated: 06 July 2009
Forming from the ashes of Cardiff Art School outfits The Corsairs and Screen Gemz (in addition to featuring - for a short period - future The Who bassist Pino Palladino), Freur were an ethereal synthpop indie quartet who flared briefly before calling it a day, moving to Essex and becoming Underworld, one of the most successful dance acts of all time.
Karl Hyde and Rick Smith were the main duo of the band, forming in 1982. Coming out of the post punk and new wave scene, Hyde and Smith combined punk-inspired leather and plastic clothes with a classic Eighties 'indie' mentality.
