1968: Five Generations - the response to the environment

In part two of this dissection of working class speech patterns, the presenter Jeremy Seabrook talks to people in Northamptonshire. The programme contains some outmoded attitudes towards poverty and class but in spite of this it does contain some fascinating interviews, including one with a self-confessed vandal.

Jeremy Seabrook is a prolific author, sociologist and playwright from Northampton who has used interviews with individuals as the basis of much of his work. One of his works, 'What Went Wrong: Why Hasn't Having More Made People Happier', has a foreword written by Pulitzer prize winner Studs Terkel.

Aspects of this programme reflect the time when it was made.
