Edward G Robinson may have made his name playing gangsters, but in this interview he shakes off his tough-guy image to discuss his love of art. The actor explains that art is his ruling passion and he hopes to be a good custodian of the valuable works he has collected.
Robinson was born Emanuel Goldenberg in Bucharest, Romania. His family emigrated to the USA when he was about 10 years old and he changed his name to Edward G Robinson when he decided to pursue a career in acting. The 'G' served as a reminder of his original surname.
From the BBC Archives. Recorded circa August 1962.
