SOMME
By Mark McClean
It is the anniversary year of the First World War and Mark stands by the war memorial in Belfast. He describes the significance of the year in Northern Ireland. For some it is the commemoration of the Battle of the Somme, where the mainly protestant 36 Ulster Division fought with great bravery. For others it is the anniversary of the Easter Rising. Depending where you go to school you learn a particular history.
