POMPOM
By Wendie Mills
Wendie thinks the Bulgarians have a wonderful custom. On March 1st - Martinitzer day - they send cards with flowers on to all their friends, to celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Attached to each card is a little red and white ornament made of wool - usually a little pair of dolls or a pompom. You take this out to the garden and attach it to a bush and it cheers everyone up to know spring is on its way.
