PIT PRIDE By Gerald Briddon Gerald Briddon was buried in an accident at Markham Pit as a young miner, he sustained evere injuries to his head and spine. After the accident he decided to go and work in South Africa's gold and platinum mines. He later came back to work at Markham and was there during the strike standing on the picket lines supporting his friends and colleagues from start to finish. After the strike he was among those who went to continue mining at the "super-pit" in Ashfordby, but now he earns his living making luxury mobile homes at a firm in Bakewell.
