Jack refers to recent headlines about ill-treatment in old people's homes. It makes him fearful in case he ever has to go into a home. Some were bound to chairs, force-fed or left in their own urine. Is that a way for people to end their lives? He thinks we should learn from Asian and Latin countries, who respect their elders and care for them, rather than farming them out to an institution. He'd rather be put to sleep.
