CANTONESE

Alan is ashamed to admit that after 30 years of living and working in Hong Kong he has never learnt to speak Cantonese. This year he plans to change that. He is studying for three hours a night five days a week. He demonstrates the importance of tone in Cantonese. He isn't finding it easy. But he hopes in a year or so he will have made enough progress to at least understand when people are being rude to him on the underground.
