Jean-Vernon lives in a sheltered flat in Bath. He looks forward to breakfast, but he's so forgetful that he sticks to the same breakfast every day, so that he can't forget anything. Every morning the warden calls on the intercom to see if he's survived the night. If he hasn't, they make the appropriate funeral arrangements.
