NO BADGE
By Jack Cowley
War is underway so Jack has decided there's no point wearing his 'Don't Attack Iraq' badge anymore. Tony Blair has made him think that perhaps war is necessary, although he's glad he doesn't have to go. He recently signed a 'Stop The War' petition but has decided not to attend a demonstration in nearby Staines. He finds the situation grim and hopes it all ends "easily". In the meantime he gets on with everyday life.

I agree with Jack that there seems to be no point in protesting. I attended the 1st London March against the war and felt exhilerated that my presence and my voice meant something in this democratic society, but yesterday I attended the STOP BUSH rally and felt disempowered by the whole experience. Yes, you get to shout, sing, dance, blow a whistle and let out some of the frustrations that an enormous amount of people feel, but you also sense the absolute hopelessness and a'going through the motions'routine because Bush and Blair may only bother to catch 5 minutes of it on the news if that! I hope this feeling leaves me soon because I believe it is so important to be heard and that our country and others are not used by the US authorities as flunkies in their gangster operations around the world.
