OLYMPIC REVOLUTION
By Yu Cheng
For London-based artist Cheng Yu the Beijing games have helped to promote interest in classical Chinese music. Since the beginning of this year the demand for her group, the Silk String Quartet, has been huge. At the age of seven, and during the Cultural Revolution, Cheng Yu learnt to play the pipa from her father. At that time her father's music was discouraged, being seen as anti the revolution. Many years on and Cheng Yu and her group are playing to audiences across the UK and collaborating with acts such as Damon Albarn and writing music for the blockbuster film The Mummy 3.
