FEEL THE FEAR
By Lyndi Harding
Seven years ago Lyndi nearly died when her main parachute failed to open when she was skydiving. She deployed her back up chute, but then the main parachute opened after all and the two became entangled. After hitting the ground at between 40 and 70 miles an hour, no one could explain how Lyndi escaped with only concussion, severe bruising and a few broken ribs. Within a few weeks she'd learnt to walk again, and within a few months she was regaining the use of her short term memory. But the psychological effects of the trauma were harder overcome. Lyndi suffered a major loss of confidence, and became timid and fearful in all aspects of life. Seven years on, she's learning to face up to her fears and to help bury the past. She decided to take a leap of faith and do a sponsored tandem jump for the charity Winston's Wish that helped her cope with a family bereavement.
