TRAVELLERS By Stewart Bishop Theresa and Stewart live on a bus because they believe that their lifestyle is a low-impact lifestyle - they don't have mains electricity, mains water or anything like that. The only service that they get is education for their children, and a taxi to take the children to school. There was someone who used to come round from the county council education department and all the older kids would disappear up trees because they thought he was a "kid catcher". They have a liaison officer from the council, and they go to meetings, but the officer has no powers, so they don't get anything done. They bought their own land recently between ten families, near the Forest of Dean, but they were thrown off with a compulsory purchase order. This means that they have to squat on council-owned land. Jeffrey Ellis Do this couple have jobs? Or are they just an example of the population who are taking advantage of the situation that I worked fifty one years for?!
