VALENTINE By Margaret Light Margaret's husband Malcolm is a captain of a survey vessel in the Merchant Navy, and is therefore going to be away for Valentine's Day. In the 25 years that they've been married, she's never received flowers on Valentine's Day. Malcolm says that's because he buys her flowers when he wants to, and not because he has to. She's not particularly fussed about the day - she's a chef so she'll probably be working on Valentine's night. She thinks that Valentine's Day has become Americanised, but perhaps she's being too cynical... Your thoughts about this video

| Karen Speaking as a woman, I think its nice to have flowers on Valentine's Day or chocolates. It is only 1 day a year it happens, and even if I had flowers the other 364 days of the year it wouldn't be the same as having them on Valentine's Day. Surely it wouldn't hurt Malcolm to send something on Valentines Day every 4 years if not every year. As for being away overseas, well hello but heard of the internet? What about online ordering of flowers? It's the thought that counts, and not thinking about someone on the one day of the year set aside is no different than forgetting a birthday. If you bought gifts now and again and forgot a birthday how would you feel? Would you feel loved and appreciated? I doubt it. Think of Valentine's Day the same. Yes it is a big U.S. thing and maybe a fuss to a lot of people, but some of us really do just like the simple things in life, i.e. to be remembered! Jason I agree with Malcolm. I'm just annoyed about this day that every woman has now come to expect something and forgets that romance doesn't just fall on this day but can be spontaneous and on any occasion they desire. This expectation (for me) has enforced my view on not participating on this day. Fortunately, my son is born this day, so you can guess what I celebrate on February 14th! |
