Phil still gets flashbacks of his time in the first Gulf War. although he'll never forget what he saw when he was serving in the Gulf he is trying to get on with his life. He feels glad to be alive and feels very grateful to be living in West Cumbria which he descibes as ' the most beautiful place he could think of living'.
