BRITISH PAKISTANI MUSLIM By Nesar Rafiq Nesar considers himself to be a British Pakistani Muslim, but recently he's been wondering if this really is his home, or whether he belongs somewhere else. There have been a lot of comparisons between Hitler and Saddam Hussein, but Nesar thinks that a comparison should be drawn between the experience of the Jewish people, and Nesar and his friends. They were born here, they were educated here, they believe that they're British - but now they're wondering about that. Look at the recent Eid celebrations which were supposed to be a joyful time, but now people may associate them with terrorist activities. | gingerbread man too many muslims nowadays have a chip on their shoulders.By all means cherish your religion but do try to be objective and not be so paranoid about who you are.that,in my view gets non-muslims backs up.Abdul has the best attitude. Farukh I can relate to what Nesar is saying, and have myself questioned whether I can belong in a society in which I no longer feel safe. The vast majority of British muslims would like to live as peaceful law abiding citizens, but are made to feel as though we have to choose between being muslims and being British or we are lectured to by politicians on what being a muslim can and can't be. We have to conform to their interpretations of Islam and not "kick up a fuss" about certain issues. I feel victimised by the press who I feel propagate islamophobia. The analogy between the Jews and their persecution by Hitler reminds me of the saying that those who are abused grow up to be abusers. A point for hope is that, regardless of their religious background there is a right and wrong, and people from all different backgrounds are united in protest over the unjust war and the foreign policies pursued by the U.S. Abdul Dear Muslim friends! Don't think of this war as being against Muslims. Think of this in terms of destruction of a barbaric demon - Saddam.
Don't think who is this Bush to destroy our saddam? Just take this as some good things going to happen for the Iraqis. View the world as a place of human beings not Muslims, or Christians or Jews. Don't blindly give your support for Muslims even if they commit crimes. God has given the power to think, just to differentiate us from the animals. Use the religion to cultivate our charecters and behaviours. |
