Queen’s Hall Arts Centre

Essential info: The arts centre has operated since 1983, holds a 400 seat theatre, two gallery spaces, two classrooms and a café/bar. It shows small to medium-scale touring productions, mainly one-night stands.

Shipley Art Gallery

Essential info: Home to one of the largest collections of contemporary craft in Northern England. Also shows old master paintings, most notably by Tintoretto and Terniers.
The Shipley shop sells gifts. Tea + coffee available.
Permanent Displays: The gallery's nationally renowned Contemporary Craft Collection is a dazzling display of the latest glass, ceramics, textiles and furniture. Made in Gateshead takes a look at the town's industry, its people and their skills. There's also a craft reference library.

The University Gallery is recognised as a public gallery with an annual average attendance of 80,000 visitors. It presents a programme of temporary exhibitions by artists of national and international reputation, as well as exhibitions by lesser known, promising artists.
Permanent Displays: Over 200 paintings, drawings and prints by leading contemporary British artists including, for example, Norman Adams, Peter Greenham, Sean Scully, Albert Irvin and Victor Pasmore.
