The five ages of Top Of The Pops

The site in 1990s

The eyeliner's back in the drawer, and the Pops gets plunged into confusion as faceless dance music rules the charts. Solution? Get more indie bands on and demand that everyone sings live. At least until the rules got changed back again, and pop stars and ears the country over breathed sighs of relief.

Elsewhere on the show, we saw the onset of live 'satellite' performances from bands who couldn't make it to the show itself, the launch of TOTP magazine (and later, this humble website) to accompany the show, and a string of guest presenters from the world of comedy and pop culture. There was a boyband called Take That, one of whom (Howard?) went on to be quite famous, Blur and Oasis battled for the No.1 slot (Blur won, and Oasis cried. Maybe.) and a new girlband who might be called the Spicey Grills (our notes are smudged) flirted with the crew. Anybody know where those girls are now?
