As the song says: 'Love is all around' us. Lost love; newly found love; secret love; unrequited love; office romance, and just plain sex. All of these combine in various scenarios, with various, linked couples, families and friends, to make up this well-paced and easy to follow directing debut by writer Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill).

There is no single hero or heroine, but a mix of great, mainly British favourites (Alan Rickman; Colin Firth; Emma Thompson; Hugh Grant; Martine McCutcheon and Liam Neeson, to name but a few) who each play the lead role in their own piece of sub-plot, not unlike a soap opera. Love, in its many guises, affects the lives of everyone, from a lovelorn eleven-year-old (Thomas Sangster) to a lonely, ageing rock star (Bill Nighy). Watch out for the surprise cameos by some fantastic British stars!

The effective balance between comedy and tragedy - never lingering over the latter, kept the teen-to-sixties audience entertained, right up to the back-to-where-it-all-began conclusion. Unlike many romantic comedies, the male audience can sympathise and empathise with the anguish of the male characters, and enjoy the quirky comedy and charm of a feel-good film, which shows us that love, actually IS all around…

I've been trying to find the prsonal e-mail from Richard Curtis, because, I want to compliment him for the wonderfull movie LOVE ACTUALLY. Everytime that I see, I feel like was the first time, because Richard Curtis found a way to talk about love, but every type of love, passion. And doens´t matter if it´s the fourth time that you are whatching, because, you have the sensation that something change since the last time you saw. Love Actually is incredible, marvellous, fascinating. The best movie that I ever saw in my hole life. Please, if you could send me the personal mail from Richard Curtis I´ll be glad. Thank you. And I`ll wait for an answer. Ana Cristina - Brazil - [email protected]
