    ESSENTIAL INFO

The origins of Carnival can be traced right back to pre-Roman times, when it was all decidedly Pagan. In time, Christianity took over and influenced the celebrations. Throughout history, Carnival has been subtly changing and modifying as it was integrated into different cultures and taken to different countries.

Luton is preparing itself for the biggest party of the year - Carnival!

    Man at Carnival.
You too can join in Luton's biggest party!

Costume workshops will take place every Saturday and Sunday at Wigmore Pavilion in Luton between 10.30am and 4.30pm, with carnival professionals on hand to help with ideas and give technical advice for the big day on May 26.

The Carnival just gets bigger and better each year, with the on-foot parade people being given a special chance to show off their striking costumes and dance on a new St George's Square stage, with the float vehicles passing behind.

The procession's new route for 2003 will assemble in Wardown Park, travel up the new Villa Link road and onto the stage in St George's Square, before returning to the Park via New Bedford Road.

Anyone interested in taking part in the Carnival should call the Carnival trust on 01582 876084.

Have you always wanted to parade in the Luton Carnival? Have you got a great carnival costume design?

I would like to congratulate all the organisers - every year they do a good job. I love the carnival, I visit it every year with my children and the things I look forward to is the lovely Jerk chicken and different range of foods on offer as well as the friendly atmosphere.
