As the Gordon Craig Theatre prepares for the "docking" of Titanic: The Musical, this August, visitors can soak up the atmosphere early with a visit to a special exhibition about the ill-fated ship. Howard Nelson's Titanic Memorabilia Exhibition is displayed in the cabinets at the theatreand includes an assortment of fascinating exhibits.  | | Kate Winslet's "flying" dress from the movie, is exhibited. |
These include original White Star Line china, to original outfits worn by Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio from James Cameron's infamous film Titanic. In one cabinet, Kate Winslet's flying dress, coat and shoes reside, with a large Titanic poster as a backdrop, signed by all the star's of the film, from Kate and Leo, to Kathy Bates and Bill Paxton. Another cabinet houses Kate's 'sinking' dress, and another has Leonardo's breeches outfit and a lifejacket used in the film. In the theatre foyer, an impressive array of original White Star Line crockery and cutlery is displayed, all of which is the same china that would have gone down with the Titanic. "Some of these pieces are the only ones known in existence, and are a fascinating insight into the opulence on board the fateful ship," said a theatre spokesperson.  | | Kate Winslet's dress from the sinking scenes in the film. |
Further items are on display at the Gordon Craig Theatre in this Titanic exhibition, which is free for any member of the public to come in and peruse. Titanic: The Musical runs at the Gordon Craig Theatre from Tuesday 24 to Sunday 29 August 2004.
