All the news from the midweek matches involving Luton, Watford and the MK Dons.

    Championship

    QPR 1-0 Luton Town

Luton stay in fourth, but are now three points behind the Hornets, after losing to Queen's Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Simon Oxley reports.

It wasn't so much that Luton didn't perform it was that Rangers did.

In the second half they beat the Hatters at their own game. By chasing everything and closing down quickly, QPR restricted Mike Newell's men to zero chances, even in the last ten minutes, when the home side were down to ten men, following the dismissal of their best player, Tommy Docherty.

Luton were much the better side in the first half, but were left to regret missed chances, Ahmet Brkovic and Warren Feeney being the culprits.

There were question marks over the winner when it came. Lee Cook's free kick went round the wall and beyond Marlon Beresford. Well taken it was, but Newel felt it could have been defended better.

After that Rangers wasted two more chances, and Luton couldn't find a way past the ten men.

Hatters' manager Mike Newell was disappointed at the way the Rangers' winner came about.

"I'd question the position of the wall because it shouldn't go round the wall and in the goal" he said. "But Nico says he was pulled out of the wall by their player so there's nothing you can do. If the referee doesn't see that then you've got a problem."

    Watford 2-1 Norwich City

Watford's third successive victory was sealed by two outstanding first half goals from strikers Marlon King and Ashley Young. Euan Duncan reports.

King's goal was individual brilliance resulting in a dipping half volley beyond Green from a narrow angle after 12 minutes.

Young obliged with a left footed drive inside a post following an impressive move 12 minutes later.

The Hornets should have made the game safe before the interval, King seeing a shot ricochet off a post into the arms of the Noprwich keeper.

Spurred on by a double substitution at the break Norwich were a different proposition, pulling a goal back shortly before the hour.

Dean Marney's shot was spilled by Hornets keeper Ben Foster into the path of Kevin Lisbie, who netted from close range.

The Canaries threw everything at the Watford defence late on but Marney sliced a shot wide and saw a goal bound header tipped over by Foster.

The Hornets clung on to their victory and now take on leaders Sheffield united at icarage Road on Saturday.

    Goals: King 13, Young 25.

    Norwich

After the game Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd was pleased with his teams first half performance.

"The first half was the most control we've been in a game all season, we dominated from minute 1 to minute 45, we were never in any danger."

"The second half we came out it was a different attitude and a different application and it was only a matter of time until they scored."

"I'm just thankful that we are brave and we put ourselves on the line to gain the result, one things for sure I'm not very happy about that."

    League One

    MK Dons 1-3 Swansea City

The Milton Keynes Dons are joint bottom of League 1 after Tuesday night's home defeat to Swansea. The Dons are still yet to win this season and are suffering from key injuries to first team players. Luke Ashmead was there.

It's looking fairly bleak for the Dons after being convincingly beaten by a Swansea side who have scored ten goals in two games.

The visitors dominated the first 30 minutes and opened the scoring 16 minutes in. Lee Trundle looked to be offside as the ball was played through but the referee's assistant kept his flag down and trundle finished well past Baker.

The Dons hit back on 34 minutes. A well-delivered cross from the right found Pablo Mills among a crowd of players and at the far post he managed to get a header past Willy Garrett in the Swansea goal.

The first ten minutes of the second half were fairly even but Swansea started to assert themselves with midfielder Andy Robinson scoring two quick goals on 72 and 77 minutes, picking up a loose ball for his first, calmly rounding Baker and finishing into an open net.

His second and Swansea's third came courtesy of a good pass from Lee Trundle and a drive right foot shot that Baker got a hand to but couldn't keep out.

    Swansea City

    Goals: Trundle 16, Robinson 72, 77

I can admit that Luton were second best in the second half after being the dominant side in the first, and I can hold my hands up and say QPR played good football and possibly deserved at least a point. Luton could had got an equaliser, if Paul Furlong would had been sent off after he man handled referee Mike Thorpe, after the sending off of Docherty. I am very disapointed that the officials didn't see Nico being pulled out of the wall. The match officials we have had this season so far have been very agrivating. I am 14 years old, but Refs like Andy D'Urso at Stoke, Phill Dowd at Palace, and Lee Probert at Wolves make me feel like I'm 40. It can be very stressfull going to these games sometimes. I listened to Simon Oxeley's commentry of the Palace game, and Simon's comment about calling Phill Dowd an idiot, was dead right. Well done Simon. One thing I'm slightly concerned about is Luton's lack of converting chances. Take QPR for example. Chances from Nicholls, Feeney and two from Brkovic all came to nothing.

This was a very poor display from the Dons once again we leaked goals with ease.Presure builds on Wilson we need that first win this Saturday or we face another relegation dogfight and Wrexham wont be there to help this season.
