Changing UK - The Way We Live Now

The BBC has commissioned a team from Sheffield University, led by Professor Danny Dorling, to compile a list of statistics that paint a picture of how out lives and communities have changed in the last 40 years. This is what they show on Teesside.

Population

Overall the population of the BBC Tees area has fallen by 1.8% between 1981 and 2006. This compares with an increase across the UK of 7.4%.

Across the North East and Cumbria region, the population dropped by half a per cent. For example, there was a 28% increase in population in the Cambridgeshire area and 16% in York.
