Signals at Glaisdale

Glaisdale's Rail Heritage

John Rogers worked on the signals at Glaisdale for several years, and recalls his days on the line with fondness. He's sad to see the decline of the Esk Valley Railway.

The Esk Valley Railway was a vital element of the industry in the area for years, guiding everything from people, to milk, to raw material through the hills and heights of the valley.

John Rogers arrived at Glaisdale as a signalman in the 1970s and spent the next two decades working the box there.

Here he talks at length about his experiences and his disappointment that the line's significance has fallen away.
