Hi, I’m Bethany. Have you ever imagined being a champion?
Perhaps you are a champion already?
Having hopes and dreams are important.
Our imagination can help us to think and feel about our hopes and wishes for the future and to dream BIG, which is exciting!
Today we are going on a journey to be champions.
And what do all champions need?
A celebration dance of course!
Can you show me what your celebration dance would be as a champion?
Go!
This is mine.
Yes, you all look amazing.
Wow, that is great!
Right, let's create some celebration dances for different goals.
Our dances should also show the ups and downs we may experience along the way.
First up, show me your celebration dance for climbing a mountain.
So let's all start climbing.
Oh, it's getting quite tough now.
Okay, some amazing climbing dances going on guys.
Right, we're almost there.
Let's get to the top.
Yes, we made it. Well done everyone.
We've got to the top. Right, next, let’s create a celebration dance for scoring a goal in the final of the World Cup.
Right, here we go.
Right, we're dodging people.
We're dodging people.
We're getting to the scoring box, here we go!
Shoot! It's in, she scores!
We did it guys!
Did everyone shoot and score?
Wow you're all so good, such champions.
Right, last one how about a celebration dance for finishing your homework and getting top marks?
Okay, let's go.
So we're thinking here, we're doing it.
Oh, I'm a bit stuck, I'm a bit stuck.
Oh, who else is stuck? Okay, we can do it, we can do it. Let's think about it.
Okay, I'm handing it in, I'm getting it back.
Yes, passed - top marks!
Did everyone get top marks?
I hope they did.
Amazing guys, there's so much we can celebrate every day.
It can sometimes be small achievements that are important to us, or big achievements we have worked hard for over a long time.
Imagine you are doing something you have always wanted to do… got it?
Now thinking of that thing, let’s imagine making it happen.
So let's start crouching down low as if you are the beginning of an idea…
So let's think. As the idea starts to grow, you slowly but surely reach for the stars.
As you grow you get stronger and the idea of your dream seems closer, closer… slowly your arms outstretched, you reach as high as you can and you grab your dream!
Has everyone grabbed their dream?
Amazing!
Well done everyone, you did it.
Show me your celebration dance.
Here we go!
Yeah! Amazing!
Now we have imagined our dream and the champions we are going to be, we need to work hard to achieve it.
It’s going to be tough, but don’t worry, making mistakes and doing it your way is all part of it.
Can you say after me: “We are champions”.
Ready?
“We are champions”
Don’t forget to dream big.
See you soon. Bye.
Olympic gold medallist Bethany Shriever encourages children to try out a variety of dance styles which represent the ups and downs of being a champion and reaching goals.
As well as celebratory dancing, movement is also used to mimic climbing mountains, scoring goals and doing high quality homework, demonstrating that our achievements in life can be big or small.
Through the expression of feelings of dreaming, frustration and celebration, pupils are reminded that making mistakes while reaching our goals is part of the process.
Being able to use our imagination is a powerful tool to help us see alternative possibilities.

Enrichment activities
- My Champion Moment Drawing
- Children draw themselves celebrating a big achievement — real or imagined (e.g. winning a race, writing a story, climbing a mountain).
- Underneath, they complete the sentence: "I am a champion because I…"
- Steps to My Dream Ladder
- On a ladder template, children write small steps that would help them reach a big goal (e.g. for being a footballer: practice kicking, join a team, eat healthy).
- Title it: "Climbing to My Dream!"
- Small Wins Journal
- Each child writes or draws something small they achieved recently that made them proud (e.g. helping a friend, finishing a puzzle, learning a new word).
- Mistake = Learning Circle Talk
- In a circle, children share a time they made a mistake but kept going and learned something.
- Then everyone repeats together: "Mistakes help us grow!"
